
Stacey B. Dobyns, MME, NBCT is in her eighth year teaching orchestra in Richland School District Two. She has been the Orchestra Director at Blythewood Middle School for five years. She served as the E. L. Wright Middle School Orchestra Director from 2004-2007. She attended the University of South Carolina, where she received a Performance Certificate in Violin Performance, a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in Music Education and graduated Summa cum Laude with her Master of Music Education degree.
Mrs. Dobyns has performed with the South Carolina Philharmonic and plays with Columbia-based quartet Musical Moments. Mrs. Dobyns’ instrumental training on the violin began in Spartanburg School District Seven Orchestra program, under the direction of Dr. William R. Scott. She served as Concertmaster of the Spartanburg High School Symphony and Chamber Orchestras throughout high school. A member of the 1999 Spartanburg High School Orchestra European Tour, she performed as a soloist in concerts in Warsaw, Poland, Tettnang, Germany, and Chamonix, France.
She is a 1998 graduate of the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. She served as Concertmaster for South Carolina’s All-State Orchestra in 2000, and represented South Carolina in the National High School Honors Orchestra in Washington, D.C. in 2000. Her summer studies included Furman Music Camp, Cannon Music Camp at Appalachian State University, and Brevard Music Center. While living in Spartanburg, Mrs. Dobyns studied privately with the late world-renown violinist, Dr. Jerrie C. Lucktenburg. The 2000 winner of the Young Artist Competition, she performed as a soloist with the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra. She also served as a contracted player with this orchestra throughout high school.
One of the first recipients of a South Carolina Teaching Fellowship for Music Education, Mrs. Dobyns attended the University of South Carolina where she graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Degree (Emphasis in Music Education) and Violin Performance Certificate. Additional scholarships and awards include the National Presser Foundation Music Scholarship, the Robert Van Doren Music Scholarship, the LeDare Robinson Friends of the School of Music Scholarship, USC School of Music Scholarship, USC String Project Scholarship, Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. While at USC, she studied violin with Dr. William Terwilliger, taught at the USC String project under the tutelage of Dr. Gail V. Barnes, and performed with the University of South Carolina Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. During her college summer vacations, she served on the faculties of the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, where she performed with the Alumni Quartet and at the Brevard Music Center where she performed with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra.
Mrs. Dobyns is married to the love of her life, Coach Paul Dobyns. Her husband is the Sports Medicine teacher and Head Athletic Trainer at Spring Valley High School. They have two cats at home, named Pizzi and Arco!
